There are people whose work speaks for them long after they’re gone. Then there are those whose character speaks even louder.
Tye Alroe was both.
From the moment you met Tye, you could feel the combination that made him so widely admired: quiet determination, genuine warmth, and a relentless standard for doing things right.
He didn’t just build properties on the Gold Coast and across Southeast Queensland. He built trust, loyalty, and a reputation that reached far beyond the projects he delivered.
Tye’s story wasn’t one of shortcuts or easy wins. His early years in construction were tough; long days, heavy setbacks, and moments that would have stopped most in their tracks. But Tye didn’t stop.
Losing half a million dollars at 27 and being forced to sell his home could have been the end of his building career. Instead, it became a turning point. He rebuilt, smarter and stronger, laying the foundations for what would become Alroe Constructions, a company known for its precision, quality, and integrity.
Under his leadership, Alroe became more than a building company. It became the benchmark for high-end boutique developments in the region, delivering challenging, complex projects that others wouldn’t touch and making them look effortless.
Tye brought together exceptional talent, fostered an environment of respect and honesty, and instilled a culture where nothing subpar ever left the site.
But Tye’s success wasn’t just measured in business milestones. It was in the way he made people feel. Whether you were a client, a colleague, a supplier, or a fellow builder, you left a conversation with Tye feeling heard, respected, and encouraged.
“Tye was the kind of person you’d do anything for, but he’d never take advantage of that fact. An exceptional person who despite all the success he achieved, always spoke to other builders with humility and encouragement.” - Russ Stephens
Builders around the world spoke of wanting to “be like Tye,” not just for what he achieved, but for how he carried himself while doing it.
"I had the pleasure and privilege to coach Tye for his time at APB. His tenacity at getting his head around concepts that were new to him was inspirational and I have used his level of commitment and focus to doing what really mattered better than anyone else, as an ongoing example to many other clients over the years. I am incredibly grateful that I got to speak to him recently and I will miss his “can do” attitude, and effervescent personality deeply." - Andy Skarda
As an ambassador for the Association of Professional Builders, Tye shared his insights freely. He believed in raising standards across the industry, in helping other builders avoid the mistakes he had made, and in lifting up those who were willing to put in the work.
He never saw competition as something to fear, it was something to inspire progress.
“For everything Tye had achieved, he was one of the most down to earth people I’ve had the pleasure of working with. No ego, just a great man at his core. He was open, willing to chat and share with anyone who asked, friendly and still such a professional. Tye truly was and is someone the industry will look up to.” - Sky Kolade
Away from the business, Tye’s greatest pride was his family. His partner Nikki and their young daughter Poppy were at the heart of everything he did. No matter how busy work became, he spoke about them with a light in his eyes that no project could match.
Tye’s passing is a loss that will be deeply felt for years to come. But his legacy of resilience, craftsmanship, generosity, and connection will continue to influence everyone who had the privilege to know him.
While his homes stand out across South East Queensland, it’s the people he inspired who will keep his legacy alive.
Tye Alroe will be remembered not only for the spaces he created, but for the space he made for others to grow, succeed, and believe in themselves.
