Andy's Insights

Australia:

  • Residential home-building momentum is generally improving slightly across most regions.
  • Cost inflation is overall easing, but there are still some pressure points remaining due to supply and demand in regional areas.
  • Renewable energy and energy-efficient upgrades are on the rise.
  • Labour gaps and supply constraints remain.

New Zealand:

  • The market is showing some early signs of stabilisation.
  • Mortgage rates are coming down, which is lifting confidence.
  • Renovations are outperforming new home builds.
  • Discretionary spending on new homes is still soft.
  • There is an elevated inventory of homes for sale in some of the regions.

United States:

  • Remodel spending is strongest at the moment, primarily due to the age of homes in the United States.
  • Custom home building is slightly better than what we've had in the past, but there is still a lot of uncertainty around it.
  • A lot of homeowners in the U.S. are now moving towards remodelling their homes rather than moving.
  • Lower mortgage rates are supporting demand; however, tariffs and inflation are keeping budgets tight, and builders are still using incentives to get contracts across the line.
  • Lead flow quality is improving slowly.

Canada:

  • Profitability pressure from softening demand.
  • Remodelling spending is stabilising and is starting to rebound.
  • Net-zero and wellness-focused homes are gaining a lot of traction.
  • Affordability challenges and labour shortages persist.
  • Market split between high-efficiency demand and tight traditional segments.
